Lifeguards can only move so fast in water. And tossing a struggling swimmer a life preserver may mean the difference between life and death, but few if any lifeguards are Olympic-champion discus tossers, so it helps to have an alternate way to get that preserver there. Ryptide, a soon-to-be-Kickstartered project from drone hobbyist Bill Pierda, wants to attach a life preserver kit to the bottom of off-the-shelf drones.

The immediate point of comparison is the Iranian-designed Pars drone, a life preserver drone concept now in development in the United Kingdom. Pars is a drone specially built for the lifeguard task. Ryptide, instead, turns commercially available drones, in this case those of the DJI Phantom variety, into makeshift rescuers. The kit attaches beneath the drone to drop the life-saving rings down to struggling swimmers. The rings for the Ryptide are water-activated, so they’ll inflate when dropped but be compact in the air.

 

The crowdfunding campaign will kick of this month. If it's successful, the Ryptide project could turn a hobbyist toy into a lifeguard's best friend, provided there’s an extra pilot around to send the drone into action.

Allochroous Yacht is the winner of 2012 Millenium Yacht Design Award (MYDA) in Dream Boat Category. Designed by Ezgi Aksan, Turkish designer, and Ambra Ceronetti, Italian designer, Allochroous…an adjective in English which means “changing color” which these two designers think as the best name to represent their yacht design. Allochroous Yacht features transformable body and color through its innovative technology. You will see different form of yacht in the morning and in the night.

Language of the style is always the same but we can say that this yacht is especially for the special “nights”… because Allochroous Yacht has been designed for special concerts. Well, actually this yacht is not only for concerts but also for VIP movie premiers, exhibitions, important events or boutique theatre presentations. So we can say that this project will be for someone who is a member of such a high class society. People from these kind of Elite groups will attend prestigious events which will be held on this yacht. All expenses can be paid by sponsors or financers of the events or depending on the situation, guests can come to listen live music which is just organized for a few people.

If we have to talk about technical details a bit, Allochroous Yacht is 40-meters long and has threeparts under the hull which two of them are floating and one which is on the back by itself with motor. When the yacht is on the move, the two twin arms under the body are open and provide floatation mechanism for the boat. If the boat has to stop which it happens when someone has to get into the yacht; the arms move toward each other and become almost in closed position. At this point they create more weight and make the yacht goes down slowly. When it goes down, access to the yacht becomes easy with automatic folding stairs.

In retort to national debates on ecological, economical and social issues, HASSELL, a prominent design studio has unveiled its intangible design exclusively for an Australian High Speed Vehicle. Taking its inspiration from the brut lines of Australian speed machine, HASSELL has created the A-HSV in response to the Australian context. The high-speed vehicle presents an unconventional low-carbon, safe mode of travel for prospect travel amid Australian capital as well as regional cities. The double-decker train would present the option of modern, airy and open plan traveler seating or clandestine berths especially for business meeting, thus pioneering an innovative perception in the way Australians travel.

Another exclusivity of the train is the integration of the dining/lounge bar, which allows commuters to dine or do some daily shopping before they could arrive at their destination. The high-speed train would tackle national sustainability issues by providing short travel times to provincial cities, removing the dependence on air and personalvehicle travel, reducing transport-related jamming, opening up housing choice, affordability as well as increasing national productivity.

The solar powered Airship One concept is actually a hybrid between an airplane and a semi-rigid airship, developed with an objective to overcome the unbelievable fuel expense of conventional airlines. The aircraft is just a bit heavier than the air, therefore, it requires reasonably less effort to become airborne and stylishly cruise at 120 mph. Moreover, it features vectored ducted fans that facilitate the ship to hover or cruise. The craft’s semi-rigid structure includes carbon fiber paneling, aluminum-grade airframe and strong PVP fabric. With a large cargo bay that can house two full-trailer containers and a passenger compartment which can easily accommodate 25 passengers, the Airship One offers a quiet, eco-friendly and efficient future to air transport.

“A hybrid airship is actually a hybrid between an airship and an airplane, deriving roughly two thirds of its lift from buoyancy of lighter than air gas, and the remaining third from aerodynamic lift generated by wings. The outcome is a craft which when loaded is only slightly heavier than the air around it, and therefore requires very little effort to become airborne and even less effort to cruise comfortably at around 120mph.

The Airship One has a semi-rigid construction, Aluminum and fiber composite frame supporting PU fabric ballonets filled with lighter than air, non flammable Helium gas. Propulsion is provided by four DC electric motors, which during cruise receive their energy from solar panels mounted on the hull and wings, and during takeoff also from a bio-diesel generator. The ship can take off and land vertically, with no need for a runway of any kind.

With its 30-ton cargo capacity and a double-deck passenger compartment which can accommodate some 25 passengers with levels of comfort that by far exceed those of the most luxurious airliner.

While currently only a concept, I strongly believe that in the not too distant future machines like the Airship One will offer a quiet, efficient and eco-friendly alternative to air transport.”

Orange, the renowned UK mobile company, has unveiled this concept camping tent with various unique features. The solar-powered tent contains photovoltaic fabric to generate solar energy, a rocking heated groundsheet, wireless hub and magnetic induction charging pouch. The innovative ‘glo-cation technology’ of this Orange tent will allow the user to identify their tent by using the powers of a cellphone through SMS or RFID technology. Whenever you will active the feature, the motorcycle helmet-shaped tent dome will glow gently, pointing you back to your tent. This tent will offer the required assistance when you are on a holiday, even, you can retreat it to your home turf.

The Tamtam flash is an innovative concept that has been designed to function like a local to aid tourists finding a place and typical things of the place that they would like to see. The Tamtam looks like a compact and pocketable traditional flash light that projects navigation information of the desired way of the user tomake them feel secured in an unknown foreign environment by generating an immediate and intuitive way of path finding. Moreover, it features a zoom-able and scrollable digital map and can project a typical map on any flat surface as well. The user can select one from the two navigation modes by turning the aperture and zoom in and out on the map in the map mode. A350H Airliner design is inspired by the shape of a dolphin, it has an aerodynamical form to achieve high speed with minimum effort. As a new type of airliner, A350H has been designed to be more friendly to the environment by using cryogenic hydrogen that is contained in high pressure tanks. Someday in the future, we might face space issues where airports are no longer possible to be expanded, due to high population and high demand of living areas. This is where the main feature of A350H airliner becomes very important, its ability to vertically takeoff doesn’t take a lot of space compared to conventional airliner.

 The World’s First Commercial Space Station by Orbital Technologies

Recently, Orbital Technologies and Rocket and Space Corporation Energia (RSC Energia) announced that they will launch the world’s First Commercial Space Station (CSS). I guess somewhere near the future, space tourism is going to be the next big thing. The station will be utilized by private citizens, professional crews, and corporate researchers interested in conducting their scientific programs. If everything goes well, CSS will be the world’s first commercially available human spaceflight platform.

The CEO of Orbital Technologies, Sergey Kostenko said, “I am pleased to announce our intention to provide the global marketplace a commercially available orbital outpost. Once launched and operational, the CSS will provide a unique destination for commercial, state and private spaceflight exploration missions.” Mr. Kostenko continued, “The CSS will be a valuable addition to the global base of orbital assets. We look forward to working with corporate entities, state governments and private individuals from around the world.”

The CSS will be man-tended, with a crew capability of up to seven people. Space-certified elements, modules and technologies of the highest quality and reliability will be used in the construction of the station. The CSS will be serviced by the Russian Soyuz and Progress spacecraft, as well other transportation systems available in the global marketplace. Such arrangements are enabled through the station’s unified docking system that will allow any commercial crew and cargo capability developed in the Unites States, Europe and China.

Projector is a lightweight, handy screen that has been designed primarily for outdoor use, especially to rid the boredom. This portable camping projector can be set outdoors for watching films at campsites. While the portable screen is held to the frame with 4 separable parts of lens cap, the supporting frame is built with 4 alpenstocks that can be used while hiking. The projector features a shock-absorbing, crimped rubber surround that nestles amid the 4 alpenstocks. To offer ease in handling, the number of components has been reduced to a minimum number. It serves a great purpose for campers to counter the boredom atcamping sites.

Ecco is a concept car, designed primarily for a wacky ultramodern camper for tech-horny hippies. Resembling either a gigantic Brancusi or a sperm, Ecco’s silhouette cuts back on wind resistance with its elongated profile making the entire thing soar close to the ground. A PV cell-studded membrane cover folds out similar to an accordion, sucking up more solar power while Ecco is parked in lurve machine mode. Another characteristic feature of the membrane roof is that it as well repeats the role of a camper pop-top, thereby expanding to house a sleeping loft. Its interior has been graced with a beautiful living area, a kitchen, and a toilet. Ecco is certainly an exercise in perfect design fantasy.
