Lifeguards can only move so fast in water. And tossing a struggling swimmer a life preserver may mean the difference between life and death, but few if any lifeguards are Olympic-champion discus tossers, so it helps to have an alternate way to get that preserver there. Ryptide, a soon-to-be-Kickstartered project from drone hobbyist Bill Pierda, wants to attach a life preserver kit to the bottom of off-the-shelf drones.

The immediate point of comparison is the Iranian-designed Pars drone, a life preserver drone concept now in development in the United Kingdom. Pars is a drone specially built for the lifeguard task. Ryptide, instead, turns commercially available drones, in this case those of the DJI Phantom variety, into makeshift rescuers. The kit attaches beneath the drone to drop the life-saving rings down to struggling swimmers. The rings for the Ryptide are water-activated, so they’ll inflate when dropped but be compact in the air.

 

The crowdfunding campaign will kick of this month. If it's successful, the Ryptide project could turn a hobbyist toy into a lifeguard's best friend, provided there’s an extra pilot around to send the drone into action.

XLDron Versatile Earth Window Concept by Oscar Vinals is a concept of what future hotel-resort could be and the spacecraft vehicle to do the transport between land base and space infrastructure.

The “Earth Window” Space Hotel project consists of two phases:

  • Start-orbit of the modules that compose the infrastructure of “Earth Window” by “Ariane” or “Atlas V” rocket launches in four times, because the size and weight of these modules need the capacity to carry of a big rocket. After that, the next action would be module-assembling and commissioning of all systems in order to receive the first arrival of a capsule, launched by the XLDron Versatile, with astronauts to complete the construction phase of the Space Hotel.
  • The vehicle, that would link between land based and EW Space Hotel has a construction based on the concept XLDron, unmanned aircraft, but with bigger size.

Equipped with three ultra high bypass turbofan engines that use mixture of Biofuel and conventional fuel with a maximum takeoff weight of 85 tons, this vehicle would carry a rocket to an altitude of more than 40,000 ft., where it’s detached.

Versatile Concept Design
The rocket starts the three engines and would consist of three stages combined between solid and liquid rocket, capable of putting into LEO, MEO and HEO orbits a mass of two tons approximately of payload.

The rocket would have different configurations, combining four types of capsules:

  • Astronauts Capsule: It could take 5 “Spassengers” (space Passengers) and a small amount of basic material.
  • Supplies Capsule: might carry all kinds of supplies for the Space Hotel. And it would serve as auxiliary emergency capsule.
  • Energy Capsule: it could replenish EW Space Hotel fuel and basic materials such as oxygen, hydrogen, etc.
  • Satellite Capsule: could put satellites into orbit of medium size. Or even send “small” vehicle “explorers” to other planets.

AvA02 Serafim concept jet has been designed and developed for private use. The idea behind this concept is to fulfill human’s great desire to fly at any moment, reach unimaginable heights and go to all places we had ever wanted to see without great time expenditure. Rich people are usually under great pressures; well this new hobby flying with private jet offers the ultimate relief from all those pressures. Flying up, up, and away for awhile.

Aside from using AvA02 Serafim as private use, this jet can also be used as a travel or public transport craft.

SeaSTOL VLJ stands for Sea Short Take Off and Landing Very Light Jet. If you don’t get the idea of very light jet, you might understand if the term used were “personal jet”. Based on Paul Bertorelli from AvWebthe term of very light jet is not used in aviation industry anymore, the more popular term is personal jet. This future vehicle was born out of the intention to develop practical transportation design.

VLJs are small jet aircraft for about 5-8 people that are small enough to utilize small airports. In other words, in the future, it is very possible to take taxi flights from one point to another without compromise and saving a lot of your time. Eclipse is one of most well known VLJ companies, at some point they were looking at 5000 orders and increasing. There are about 20 new models coming between 2010 and 2014 that mainly focus on American market. However, not a single VLJ is a seaplane.

I wished to take a look at how I could improve and hopefully visualize, design and build a new solution to the Watergoing Aircraft of today, by utilizing this new and unique technology, consisting of small compact, light – weight jet engines, and avionics that will allow anything. I believe both the technology and the market is ready, and in place to take on these challenges. It is impossible to look at the future without taking into account that water – and air has to be utilized and investigated further in order to make personal transportation many steps easier and more comfortable. This SeaSTOL VLJ project produced a conceptmodel of a new Waterborne VLJ Aircraft shape.

A plane is categorized and constructed from a set of factors regarding three basic areas:

  • The weight it can carry
  • The distance it can fly
  • How fast it flies

These are important questions which have been taken into account in this project as well. But, the design of modern aircraft should also to a great extent answer users’ questions & problems with existing platforms. InSeaSTOL VLJ project the aircraft is designed to cover the gap between the conservatism and technology in the commercial VLJ marked with the excitement & bald designs in the experimental class of aircraft. Seaplanes are by far some of the most flexible aircraft that exist. my goal at the end was to blend the technology & durability of modern VLJ`s with this `flexibility` & try to enhance the `flexibility`, in order to achieve the making of visual interpretations that could support the “fun factor” & excitement we find in experimental aircraft design.

It is clear in my mentality that this flexible seaplane VLJ has an irresistible culmination of qualities, and presents a new class of aircraft altogether.

The SeaSTOL VLJ project was done whilst studying Industrial Design in Essen, Germany in 2008. But it has never been published at extent to date, and still remains a dream to be built in the future. Today I am managing a small aircraft company in Norway called Equator Aircraft Norway SA. We are developing a smaller seaplane called the EQP2. Touch your heart and tell that you have never envisioned yourself in the middle of the luxury and performance of the Gulfstream G550 long range private jet, unless you are dumb enough to consider the bills for the trip even in your dreams.

Stefan Radev, a young industrial designer has presented a concept design for the interior of the superb aircraft with a goal to enhance the premium interior experience from cockpit to passenger section. Starting from the oval shaped windows letting more natural lights to access the interior, to wide-open and comfortable seating arrangements, this functional concept will certainly set a new definition of luxury. The interior elements have been designed with wood and some widely used electronic gadgets like iPod, iPad, iPhone, etc has been incorporated with the cabin to control environment or for entertainment. The cockpit design is quite unique and functional and the pilots of this multi-million dollar plane can also attend the party inside by putting the plane in an autopilot function. The final outcome would be an elegant and pleasant space where passengers will enjoy doing their office work or having some pleasure time during the long flight.

We already know that great power comes with great responsibilities and just like that of Spiderman, rich people also have a lot of responsibilities and great work pressure. To address the quick and luxurious commuting requirement of these rich and responsible people AvA One private jet concept has been designed with an ability to fly up and away.

Aside from personal transportation, this concept can be used as a wide variety of purposes in various weather conditions. The compact and lightweight construction and appearance of Ava One is undoubtedly unique and futuristic which has been achieved through incorporating advanced structural and cladding materials. It comprises a solar panel covered frame in which cockpit, engine, wing structure and storage have been incorporated to make it simple and functional. The morphing shaped wing design gives it a supersonic long distance flight capability with more maneuverability. This personal jet can house two people having flight controls with revolutionary steering control to the front seat, while the rear seat features a display and bucket-seat with elbow rests. The Boeing X-32 prototype propulsion engine is empowering the jet for efficient flight. Inclusion of the parachute encapsulated detachable cockpit and oxygen supply system for emergency landing on various types of surfaces have ensured comprehensive safety for the passengers.
